PowerConnect’s Splunk app version 9.2.0 introduces a new KPI engine that takes metrics sent from your SAP systems and evaluates them against customized thresholds to generate rapid intelligence for your SAP landscape. This feature is being introduced with 35 ABAP metrics that will be expanded in future releases.

KPI Configuration
Navigate to the KPI Configuration page under the PowerConnect > Events and Alerts menu. This view will load your KPI definitions and settings. You can perform the following changes here:
-
Enable/disable single or multiple KPIs
-
Edit KPIs:
-
Filtering - affect which systems generate this KPI event
-
Global - Monitor all systems registered in your system inventory lookup
-
Inclusive - Monitor only selected systems or system types
-
Exclusive - Monitor everything except selected systems or system types
-
-
Thresholds - affect generated KPI event severity
-
The KPI’s default thresholds are shown. These are intended to be customized, and can be done in one of two ways:
-
A custom global threshold across all systems
-
Custom criteria for each system
-
-
For each set of thresholds, you can select the following:
-
Dynamic/Static
-
Dynamic - Determine the severity by comparing the delta of the metric value from a generated average baseline using standard deviation
-
Window - Select a baseline calculated on 7, 30, or 90 days of metric data
-
Positive/Negative/Both - Select if the KPI severity is triggered by standard deviations above or below the average.
-
-
Static - Determine the severity by comparing the metric value to set thresholds
-
Ascending/Descending - Select if the thresholds are considered ascending or descending. CPU utilization, for example, may generally be considered ascending, while system availability would be considered descending.
-
Estimate Thresholds - Press this button to get an automatic estimate of thresholds based on 30 days of data. It is recommended to adjust these values slightly for optimal results.
-
-
-
Threshold values - Provide the threshold values and assign a severity based on your selections:
-
For Static thresholds, provide the direct metric value for each severity
-
For Dynamic thresholds, provide the standard deviation value for each severity

Maintenance Windows
When SAP systems will be affected by scheduled maintenance or downtime, you can create a Maintenance Window. This is not intended for official documentation purposes, but it will tag anomalous KPI events that may be associated with scheduled maintenance so that these events can be filtered or ignored when assessing system performance.
To create a window, go to the Maintenance Windows tab and click “Create.” Here you can specify:
-
Start Time
-
End Time
-
Affected Systems
Note: Maintenance windows can be changed and deleted up to the time that they begin, at which point they are considered Ongoing and can only be changed to close them early. You may do this by clicking the “Complete” button in the Actions column when the window is shown as Ongoing.
